What Is the NFOP RHS Plan?

The NFOP RHS Plan is a union-sponsored retirement health savings plan. Retirement health savings plans allow participants to set aside money now for their health care needs in retirement. Contributions to the plan, investment gains in the plan, and qualified expenditures from the plan are all tax-free. As the name implies, expenditures from the RHS plan are restricted to qualified medical expenses. The plan has been adopted by the Grand lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police and is therefore available to all active members. However, before the plan will be available to you the following steps must be taken:

  • Your Lodge must implement the plan
  • Your Lodge will then work with your employer to setup the payroll deduction processing

The structure of the plan is as follows:

  • The plan has been adopted by the Grand Lodge for all of its 321,000 active members
  • ICMA-RC will be the record keeper for the plan
  • Once a Lodge agrees to implement the plan, it will work with your employer to develop specifics such as employer contributions and timetables.

To determine if the plan is available to you, you may call 1-866-747·NFOP (747-6367). To begin saving, obtain an enrollment kit by contacting your Lodge or calling ICMA-RC, 1-866-747·NFOP (747-6367).
